What is a laboratory test?

 
A laboratory test or lab test is a health screening test used by doctors to find out information about the state of your health that is not accessible to them with a regular check up. Laboratory tests can also determine health problems that can otherwise go undetected. The most common way laboratory test are performed is by drawing a small blood sample or by obtaining a urine or saliva sample, depending on what test is needed. These tests are the same type of test ordered by doctors and the results are medically accepted by physicians.

I am healthy Why get tested?

You can achieve peace of mind and more control over your health if you get tested and monitored at least once a month at the beginning. At The Wellington Institute, we encourage the practice of preventive medicine because we believe that a simple lab test could save your life.
The right lab tests could help your doctor specify or rule out a diagnosis. Many doctors recommend routine lab tests to detect diseases before they develop. Diseases such as Heart Disease, Diabetes, Colon Cancer, Prostate Cancer, and Thyroid Conditions, known as "silent killers", can develop in the body for years before they show any symptoms. A person may be carrying a Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) silently in the body and thus unknowingly infect others.
An STD, Cancer, or Cholesterol test can give you peace of mind or an early warning. By providing, you with the information you need today, being tested can help you take control over your own health. Get tested now to prevent diseases before its too late.

How accurate are these tests?

Yes, these tests are just like the normal lab tests ordered by physicians, and they are analyzed by experts at a fully accredited laboratory.

How do I take a test if I’m not in Florida?

We encourage our Florida Patients to come for an evaluation before, but if are unable to visit us, simply by providing us with the city and state, or the zip code where you would like to have your lab test done, we can locate one of our preferred national laboratory facilities close to you. Payment should be made in advance by phone or by filling out and submitting the online payment form. You will be sent a personalized requisition form by mail or fax, which you need to take with you to the testing facility. You can schedule to take the test at your earliest convenience at the selected laboratory facility, or you can just walk-in. On the day of your test, they will collect the requisition form and a technician will draw a blood or urine sample for testing. Unfortunately we do not do testing in New York.

Do I need to fast before the test?

Some tests, such as the cholesterol test, require a ten-hour fast for more accurate results. Water is permitted during your period of fast.

What happen when you receive the results of my test?

As soon as we receive the test results, we will contact you: we could either mail the results or fax them to you.

Are tests results easy to understand?

The test results are easy to understand. The normal range for each test is provided for your reference. Any abnormal levels would fall outside this range.

What if I have questions about my test results?

Any questions regarding abnormalities on your test results should be discussed with your Dr. Cabanellas or one of her associates either in person or by phone. If you have any other questions about test results, please send us an email. Click here to send us your questions and they will be answered in a timely manner.

Can I take the results to my local doctor for a diagnosis?

We encourage you to book a phone consultation with Dr. Cabanellas or one of her associates of the Wellington Institute, if we are unable to help you, Yes you can take them to your local doctor- since these tests are the same medically accepted lab tests ordered by physicians, your doctor should be able to discuss them with you.

If your doctor does not have the expertise in this area, we encourage you to call us back and we either book you a phone consultation or refer you to a qualified physician in your area.
These test results should be used by your doctor in conjunction with your medical history. Your doctor may decide to order additional tests or he should contact The Wellington Institute to discuss the different options you have.

What do abnormal test results mean?

Abnormal ranges on your test results should be discussed with Dr. Cabanellas at The Wellington Institute for further analysis or medical diagnosis and treatment, or with your local doctor. An abnormal test should be treated as a warning sign or an alert for you to take the necessary actions and changes in your lifestyle.
Dr. Cabanellas may recommend a treatment or a change in your diet, nutrition and exercise program to reverse the condition and bring your values back within normal ranges.

How much is the processing fee?

A $12.00 processing fee will be added to your order. The charge will cover the processing of the order, the customization of requisition forms, postage, materials and draw fee at each site.

Is testing covered by insurance?

Blood testing may be covered by your insurance company. Coverage varies from plan to plan so you will need to contact your insurance company to see if it is covered. We cannot bill your insurance directly because we are not the lab that does the testing.

Do I need to see my local doctor before get tested?

One of the most important benefits offered by our third party laboratory services is that you have control over what tests you would like to have and when to order them. This means that a doctor's visit is not required before you order any of the tests we offer.

Do I need an appointment?

We prefer you come for an initial appointment with Dr. Cabanellas so she can give you a complete evaluation of your health, but if you are unable to come, we encourage you to book a phone consultation, but if you still not want to call, you don't need an appointment to go to one of our preferred laboratory facilities, but make sure you talk to with one of qualified staff members to give you our requisition form before you go. The requisition form will be sent to you after the order for your test panels has been submitted.

Are the results confidential?

Yes, all of the results are 100% confidential.

How does the saliva testing process work?

We encourage all our patients to book an Anti-Aging appointment with Dr. Cabanellas. She will go over in detail about why and what testing is right for you. Our staff is fully trained to do the job for you. But if you can’t come for an initial consultation at The Wellington Institute, you can order a saliva test kit from us, you will receive in the mail a test kit containing: the collection tube(s), requisition form, instructions, and a prepaid 2-day label and mailer. Once you complete your sample collection and fill out the requisition form, you will mail your completed kit (sample tube(s) and requisition form) to the lab for analysis in the prepaid mailer provided. Your results will then be E-mailed or mailed to us within 10 business days. If you want to have your results E-mailed, before the follow up appointment we can fax or mail them to you.

What do you do with the results?

Your saliva test results will be E-mailed or mailed to The Wellington Institute in approximately 2 weeks after you complete the test. If you have completed our Bio-Identical Hormone Evaluation Form, we will review your test results and evaluation form, then we will call you to discuss and explain in detail the results and alternative treatments plans, and make a recommendation for bio-identical hormone therapy if you qualify, or we can mail them to you.
You can also take your results to your healthcare provider to discuss the options for treating any hormone imbalances in case you feel more comfortable. If your healthcare provider is not knowledgeable in this area, we can assist them in determining which therapy is right for you. If you have any questions, please contact us.

What is your return policy for saliva tests?

Unused and unopened saliva test kits may be returned for a refund and are subject to a $25 return fee plus $15 restocking fee. You are responsible for return shipping costs and should use a trackable shipping method (Fedex, UPS, DHL) to confirm delivery back to us.

HRT Basic Male Panel

The HRT Panel for Men is the basic set of laboratory tests required by a Medical Doctor to prescribe male Hormone Replacement Therapy like Testosterone and Human Growth Hormone (HGH). Having these lab tests performed before you seek a pharmaceutical prescription can save you money and time because your prescribing physician will know beforehand if your lab test results qualify you for the prescriptions. This panel will check your levels of Free and Total Testosterone, Estradiol, and IGF-1. It also includes the following tests: Complete Blood Count, Lipid Profile, Complete Metabolic Panel, Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA), and a basic Thyroid Profile.

Having these lab tests performed before you seek a pharmaceutical prescription saves you both time and money because your prescribing physician will know beforehand if your lab test results qualify you for the prescriptions. This panel will check your IGF-1 level, Estrogen/Progesterone levels, as well as numerous other female hormone levels that are necessary to know when trying to alleviate the symptomology associated in both Post/Peri-Menopausal woman. This panel will also include a Complete Metabolic Panel, Complete Blood Count, Lipid Profile, and a basic Thyroid Profile.
